Family Home, Williamsburg, Virginia

In desperate need of more than just a face lift, this 3,400 sq ft house was totally transformed in 2020 by the replacement of all finishes throughout and by the addition of a new guest suite, paved terrace in the rear, new and larger deck, and a new screened porch. We took this property from an unfortunate, worsening foreclosure to a fabulous open-plan family home, within only a few months!

It is amazing what a coat of paint (or two) can do. That is precisely what has happened throughout the entire house, especially to the kitchen. Before the cabinetry was painted white, some shifting around of cupboards was necessary to make the space ‘make sense’. Previously there were two very small islands positioned on angles, so we created one large island to be the gathering place of the kitchen. And we did away with the desk-within-the-kitchen (which rarely works for any family), by filling in that space with one of the existing island cupboards, so now there is one long, consistent cabinet run along the far wall.

The client chose the grey and white granite slabs due to the interspersed tinges of green, to reflect the colours within the silk of the window pelmets and the upholstery in the adjoining family room.

We took the master bathroom from being the most neglected room in the house, with mildew in almost every crack and crevice, to the client’s favourite room in the house. Slate flooring runs into the newly-tiled and frameless glass shower, and vanities have new quartz tops and are freshly painted to lighten up what was once a very drab space.

The new paved brick terrace in the rear of the property, with fire pit area, and the screened porch and deck have extended and expanded the client’s living space tenfold. This is coastal Virginia living at its best!
